Melchoir, Marcus
(1897-1969)
   Chief rabbi of Denmark. During the Nazi occupation in World War II, the Danish people made heroic efforts to save their Jewish population. In October 1940 the Danish undergound secretly trans-ported most of the Jews to safety in Sweden. Melchoir who was a Danish rabbi, served them there. After the war he became the chief rabbi of Denmark.
